National Health Center Week 2025: Huntsville’s Recap
National Health Center Week in Huntsville: Parties, Patients, and a Whole Lot of Heart
What’s a health center? Is it like a gym? A clinic? A place with green smoothies?
We get that question more than you’d think — even though we’ve been caring for Huntsville (and really, all of North Alabama) since 1982. ⭐️ Fun fact: that’s the same year the Panoply Arts Festival made its debut and the Space & Rocket Center launched its very first Space Camp.
The truth is, most people don’t think in industry terms. They think about their doctor. Their nurse. The person at the front desk who remembers their kids’ names. That’s us — your community health center in Huntsville, providing compassionate, high-quality primary care for every stage of life.
And that’s exactly why National Health Center Week matters. This week is our time to celebrate the heart of our mission — our patients, our staff, and our community — and to share how we work every day to keep Huntsville healthy.
A Week at a Glance
This year’s National Health Center Week in Huntsville included:
Day 1: Patient Appreciation Day — Shaved Ice, Smiles, and Prizes
We kicked off the week with a day focused entirely on you. Instead of only seeing patients in exam rooms (okay… some of you still had appointments), we stepped outside into the sunshine to share laughs, give away prizes, and say a heartfelt “thank you.”
Because Alabama summers don’t play around, we handed out ice-cold Kona Ice to cool everyone down — our sweet way of showing appreciation for trusting us with your family’s health.
Since 1982, thousands of patients have chosen Huntsville Family Health Center and our network of Family Health Centers for everything from check-ups to chronic disease management. Patient Appreciation Day let us say it out loud:
“We see you. We appreciate you. We’re proud to be part of your family’s health journey.”
Day 2: Staff Appreciation Day — Island Spice Lunch
The next day, we flipped the spotlight to our care team. Senior leaders traded clipboards for aprons and served up a feast from Island Spice Caribbean Cuisine (insider tip: if you haven’t tried them yet… run, don’t walk).
From the front desk to the exam rooms, every staff member plays a vital role in delivering complete, high-quality care. Staff Appreciation Day gave us the chance to serve them, share a few laughs, and enjoy a dessert table full of bake-off entries.
Day 3: The Block Party — Huntsville’s Summer Hot Spot
How do you wrap a week like this? With a party — a Block Party. This was our 5th Community Fun & Wellness bash, co-hosted with Thrive Alabama and HAPPI Health.
Lashay B brought the energy, and before we knew it, people from every corner of the park — kids and adults alike — were dancing. Line dancing? Oh, it happened.
No one was left hungry! There was complimentary shaved ice, popcorn, pizza — and hot dogs provided by Food For Us.
We also had bounce houses, bingo, nonprofit resource booths, and even the Huntsville Police and the Huntsville Fire Department showing off their trucks and joining in friendly games with attendees.
Zone Mobile Entertainment brought their video game bus. Yes, that’s a thing. And yes, it’s as cool as it sounds.
“Oh wow, this is the greatest day ever,”a young boy exclaimed, balancing a bag of popcorn and a hot dog as he raced off to his next Fortnite battle.
Of course, we kept the health in Health Center with free screenings and information about our services and programs.
Three lucky winners scored the big prizes:
Electric Scooter
Inflatable Movie Screen & Projector
Weekend Staycation: Trash Pandas baseball, hotel night, Outback dinner, movie tickets, EarlyWorks Museum passes — all the fun, none of the travel
